He volunteered in August 1914, and embarking for Egypt in the following June, took part in the defence of the Suez Canal. He also saw service on the Gallipoli Peninsula during 1915 and then returned to Egypt , where he participated in occupation of Sollum and in fighting in Katia. Later he proceeded to Palestine and was in action at Gaza and Jericho. He held held the 1914-1915 Star and the General Service and Victory Medals. He died in 1921 in England after an accident
