Millions of parish records online - from 1538 onwards

Parish Registers - the Church's records of baptisms, marriages and burials date from the 16th century and are key to finding out about your family's past before the introduction of civil registration. If your ancestors stayed in one place for centuries you may be able to find generations of your family among the records of just one church.

Although many of the records have been put on microfilm or microfiche, occasionally you may experience the thrill of handling an original register that recorded an event in your ancestor's life.

The Parish registers are fully transcribed although the images are not available for the Phillimore Marriage Parish Registers.

Phillimore Parish Registers
Phillimore's Marriage Registers are a series of books published in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Phillimore and Co. The database currently covers 26 Counties.

They are invaluable for those searching Marriages in particular. One should note that the Phillimore Marriage Registers do not cover all the parishes or complete dates - this depends on the surviving registers and those that were collected by Phillimore and therefore there may be some omissions. As with any transcription it is advisable to verify the original parish registers which may also contain additional useful information.

When searching for an individual note that the Surname field almost always refers to the Husband (male) as they were listed first in the Registers whereas the Spouse refers to the Wife or (female). Therefore for maximum success one should search in both fields.

Familyrelatives.com will continue to add Parish information Christenings (Births), Marriages and Burials (Deaths) in the future.
