Britain's Roll of Glory or The Victoria Cross, Its Heroes and their valour. From personal accounts, official records and Regimental tradition.

Chapters include accounts of several conflicts from around the world and the brave participation of British Regiments and individuals including the Crimean War, Persian Wars and the Indian Mutiny to name a few.

One of these accounts is of "Lucknow Kavanagh" when Thomas Henry Kavanagh - one of only a handful of individuals who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his courage and near impossible efforts - a civil servant who became a hero warrior and disguised himself as an Indian rebel risking his life in order to guide a British force to relieve the Residency compound under siege by merciless Indian mutineers in Lucknow.
